Society

The Society of Social Work Research is a learned association founded in 1998 to bring together social work researchers and practitioners and to act as a bridge between social work research and professional practice. Its individual and collective members represent social work researchers, teachers, experts, students and practitioners. The Society of Social Work Research is a non-profit registered association and a member of the Federation of Finnish Learned Societies (TSV).

The aim of the Society of Social Work Research is to improve the position of social work research in society, to promote the exchange of research results, expertise and experience between different actors and to develop international cooperation. Another important task of the Society of Social Work Research is to raise the profile of the social work research and to recognise meritorious research. Four institutions are involved in making social work research visible in society: the annual Social Work Research Days and the awarding of the Master Thesis Prize, the biennial Yearbook of Social Work Research and the election of an Honorary Fellow. In addition, every five years the Society of Social Work Research awards a doctoral or licentiate research prize.

As a research society, the Society of Social Work Research offers its members a forum where they can discuss the directions of social work research, produce new openings and strengthen their own scholarship. On the other hand, the Society of Social Work Research contributes to the internal debate within its discipline and to the conditions for conducting research in social work, and opens up debates relevant to decision-making in society.
